HANIOTI
According
to the last census, the inhabitants are 524 but in the summer months they
increase to 12500. The total area of our municipality is 2600 acres and
consists of the village(150 acres), woods(1525 acres), land under cultivation(875
acres) and water(50 acres). As we learn from tradition the village got
its name like this:its first inhabitants came from Chania(from Crete) and
settled in the area of the old village which is the interior of Kassandra
2.5 kilometres to the south of the modern village. So people from the nearby
villages used to say that the area was inhabited by a CHANIOTIS(a man from
Chania). The village was moved to its present location in 1936 after an
earthquake which ruined the old village completely. St George’s church
was built there. The place is full of springs and rich vegetation. The
village is decorated by thousands of flowers in the squares and the parks.
Acres of land are covered by pine-trees which reach the shore and the deep-blue
sea.
PEFKOHORI
It is
one of the most beautiful villages of Halkidiki, situated at the end of
the peninsula Kassandra. It’s name(pefko = pine-tree) can give you an idea
of what it looks like. The village consists of two parts. In the old village
with the typical narrow lanes, the beautiful square, the restaurants and
the various shops, you will find the traditional hospitality of the area
and you will enjoy the beautiful gardens with the lemon trees, the jasmines
and roses. On the other hand the modern and developed area of the beach
offers you a modern life and an endless beach with velvet-like sand and
deep blue sea, the heart of Halkidiki’s "Secret Paradise". After sunset,
the lights of the bars, the discos and the restaurants prepare you for
the beginning of another kind of life. The beautiful restaurants with the
excellent service, their polite staff and their dishes capable of satisfying
everyone’s taste, will help you prepare for the night life which is full
of surprices. In the morning, the various means of transport will enable
you to visit the surroundings but if you want to stay, you can wander in
the pine-tree forest, which gave its name to the village, and through large
areas with olive-trees. Pefkochori which is 105 km from thessaloniki can
be reached by almost any means of transport, from the Holy week to the
end of Oktober.
