AG.NIKOLAOS
The village
was built in the early 17th century through the coalition of the surrounding
villages. The inhabitants are 2500 people. The patron Saint of the village
is St.George whose churches are situated inside and outside it. The village
is surrounded by pine tree woods which provide a healthy atmosphere. To
the East lies the bay of the Holy Mountain with the churches and monasteries
as a background. The beaches belonging to Agios Nikolaos stretch out on
an area of 30 km and they have beautiful sandy shores and clear waters.
2,5 km south-east of the town is the port and the settlement of Ormos Panagias
where there are many yachts and fishing boats. There are also hotels, tavernas
and a fish market with fresh fish from the sea. 8 km south lies the famous
beach of Vourvourou where the holiday settlement of the university teachers
from Thessaloniki lies. In addition to this, the Health Settlement of the
doctors is under construction. What makes the area more beautiful are the
11 small islands with nice and secluded beaches. A biological station operates

It is built amphitheatrically with an excellent street plan, above the
sea level and at the inmost part of the gulf of the Holy Mountain. It is
surrounded by olive trees and low vegetation. From every part of the village
you can see the majesty of the Holy Mountain and the peninsula of Sithonia.
It has about 600 inhabitants. The patron Saint of the community is "Virgin
Mary of Kastrella", whose icon was brought from the homeland by the refugees.
It is 100 kilometres from Thessaloniki, through Arnea. A nearby settlement,
