SIKIA
It is 160 kilometres from Thessaloniki and has a population of 3000. Sikia is one of the oldest villages in Chalkidiki. In Holy Mountain documents from the 14th century it is mentioned with the name of Loggos. We don't know when this name was changed to Sikia. In 1821 the village was one of the major partcipants in th revolution in Chalkidiki. The inhabitants free und unruly spirits, were among the first to fight in the battle of Vassilika, under the command of captain Chpsas. During the wars for the Liberation of Macedonia, the people of Sikia played a leading part and they organised powerful fighting groups. Today Sikia is the biggest village in Sithonia. Its people are wellknown for their dynamism and their good heart. The Sights of the area are:
1) The old settlement of Sikia. In its middle there is the church of St. Athanasios. The interesting parts of it are: the wooden ceiling  and the carved icon-stands, made in 1703, probably coming from the Holy Mountain. at the waterfront of sikia, there are two wind-mills, which were built in the middle of the 19th century.
2) A hill named Koukos, which is the west of Sikia. It is a steep, rocky hill dominating Sikia and the surrounding area. On the top there is a castle and it seems that there was also an important prehistoric settlement. the only way to go up, is on foot, along a difficult path and climbing lasts half an hour.
3) 20 km from Sikia, there is the settlement of Toroni. Its history starts from prehistoric times. Since 1974, systematic excavations have been carried out by the Byzantine section of the archaeological department of Chalkidiki.
4) Porto Koufo is the biggest and safest natural harbour in Greece. Its name is mentioned even by Thucidides.
