About the MicroSim DesignLab Evaluation Version =============================================== The MicroSim DesignLab Windows evaluation version also includes evaluation versions of MicroSim PSpice Optimizer and MicroSim PCBoards. System Requirements =================== To effectively use the software, users must have: Hardware -------- -- An IBM 80486, or Pentium-based PC (or compatible) computer with the following features: -- 640 kilobytes of DOS (low) memory -- at least 8 megabytes of extended memory (not expanded or LIM), 16 megabytes recommended -- 80x87 floating-point coprocessor (compatible with the system) -- VGA, EGA, or most other displays (color and monochrome) supported by Windows -- CD-ROM drive -- a mouse Software -------- One of the following operating systems: -- Windows 95 -- Windows NT Limitations =========== MicroSim's evaluation programs have the following limitations: MicroSim Schematics: - Schematic capture limited to one schematic page (A-size or A4) - A maximum of 50 symbols can be placed on the schematic - A maximum of 9 symbol libraries can be configured - A maximum of 20 symbols allowed in a user-created symbol library - A maximum of 70 parts can be netlisted for PSpice - A maximum of 30 components can be netlisted for PCB layout - A maximum of 50 nets for PCB layout - OrCAD translator is not included MicroSim PCBoards: - A maximum of 30 components - A maximum of 50 nets - A maximum of 4 layers (2 plane layers and 2 signal layers) - A maximum of 2 layers allowed in Specctra (no plane layers allowed) - 33 specific footprints - no user-defined footprints allowed MicroSim PSpice A/D with Schematics: - All the functionality of MicroSim Schematics as listed above - Circuit simulation is limited to circuits with up to 64 nodes, 10 transistors, two operational amplifiers, or 65 digital primitive devices, or a combination thereof, and 10 ideal transmission lines with not more than 4 non-ideal lines (lossy lines using RLGC parameters) and 4 coupled lines. - Device characterization is limited to diodes - Interactive stimulus generation program is limited to sine waves (analog) and clocks (digital) - Sample library of 35 analog and 130 digital parts MicroSim PSpice Optimizer: - Requires MicroSim PSpice A/D with Schematics evaluation package - Limited to one goal, one parameter, and one constraint MicroSim PLSyn: - Reduced symbol library set - No integrated symbol editor - PLD simulation only - No support for discrete digital parts - Simulations may only be started via the Analysis/simulate command in Schematics - The simulation model library is limited to PLSYN_IO_xxx models - Fitting is limited to the AMD MACH231 architecture MicroSim Probe: - Can't read a production data file, or a .csdf data file How to Install the Windows Evaluation Versions ============================================== 1. Create a temporary directory on the hard drive. C:\>md temp 2. Change to the temporary directory. C:\>cd temp C:\temp> 3. Download the complete evaluation version(s) (80dlabe.exe) OR the 13 pieces that make up the evaluation version (80dlep1.exe, 80dlep2.exe, 80dlep3.exe, through 80dlep13.exe) into the temporary directory that was just created. 4. Type the name(s) of the self-extracting files. C:\temp>80dlabe.exe -d (Complete Evaluation Version) OR C:\temp>80dlep1.exe -d (Evaluation Version Part 1) C:\temp>80dlep2.exe -d (Evaluation Version Part 2) C:\temp>80dlep3.exe -d (Evaluation Version Part 3) C:\temp>80dlep4.exe -d (Evaluation Version Part 4) C:\temp>80dlep5.exe -d (Evaluation Version Part 5) C:\temp>80dlep6.exe -d (Evaluation Version Part 6) C:\temp>80dlep7.exe -d (Evaluation Version Part 7) C:\temp>80dlep8.exe -d (Evaluation Version Part 8) C:\temp>80dlep9.exe -d (Evaluation Version Part 9) C:\temp>80dlep10.exe -d (Evaluation Version Part 10) C:\temp>80dlep11.exe -d (Evaluation Version Part 11) C:\temp>80dlep12.exe -d (Evaluation Version Part 12) C:\temp>80dlep13.exe -d (Evaluation Version Part 13) 5. To install the evaluation version, from Windows (95 or NT) run the SETUP.EXE program located in the temporary directory above (or from the DISK1 directory).
