 Slides

Three types of teaching slides are available:

A set of teaching slides for a course on Distributed Systems

This contains detailed Powerpoint teaching slides, including bullet points and incrementally presented diagrams for Chapters 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 17 and selected topics in Chapters 5, 9, 10, 11. They were made for a course given by two of the authors in December 2001. Follow this link for a more detailed description and downloads.

Powerpoint slides made from the figures in the book (zipped .ppt files)

Powerpoint slides based on the figures in the book with the grey tints replaced by colours. Teachers can easily merge their own teaching slides with those provided here. We may have introduced a few errors in the process of conversion from Framemaker. Please let us know of any problems and we will attempt to rectify them.

Slide masters for the figures in the book (Acrobat .pdf files)

These are (monochrome) copies of the figures enlarged to fill a page in US Letter and/or A4. They are designed for producing printed transparencies.

 Exercises and Solutions

Solutions to exercises (Acrobat .pdf files)

These are password-protected. They are accessible via the user name "dsbook" using a password that is is available only to teachers using the book. Bona-fide teachers and instructors should apply for the password at the publishers web site: Pearson Education Companion Web pages

It is a semi-automated system: once you have registered there your local Addison-Wesley/Pearson Education sales representative is notified and they should email the password to you within a day or so. If you have any difficulty, please contact Daniel.Russell-Brimson@pearsoned-ema.com.

Presentation points and suggested approaches for teaching (HTML)

There is a single page of hints on teaching for each chapter:

A set of laboratory projects

We have provided a set of five laboratory projects that have been used to support teaching of some of the topics in our book. The projects are described and can be accessed from a separate page.
