Large organisations can improve web performance by sticking a web cache in front of HTTP connections
The cache inspects an incoming HTTP request to see if it can satisfy the request from locally cached objects.
If yes, then the object is returned, and the last reference time is updated
If no, then the object is retrieved and copied locally if allowed.
Web objects can be marked as non-cacheable.
Caching is a major part of the HTTP standard
