Course Project

An E-commerce site for your new start-up business.

Objective:  To tailor the EcomMall store given to your group to a unique E-Commerce store website of your own containing products and/or services you wish to market, sell and support over the Internet.  You must demostrate:

Rationale:  To provide two person teams with hands-on experience at tailoring an E-Commerce store to their own desires.  To practise and extend the knowledge acquired in class through assignments and a project.  Be inventive .. have fun!

Evaluation:  The professor working with the TAs will evaluate each teams website based on:
14% - satisfaction of the above objective requirements
2% - complexity of implementation (based on peer comparisons)
2% - ease of use and navigation (based on peer comparisons)
2% - originality and creativity in presentation (based on peer comparisons)
The top 5 teams will give a demo of their E-commerce sight at the end of the course.  Class participants will help judge the finalists and select the top team.

The Process:   Students should pair up into teams of two persons before the end of the second week of classes.  This must be done based on the completed Student Surveys.  Team notifications will not be accepted unless accompanied by the surveys.  The teams will work together on all assignments and the project. The assignments, unless otherwise indicated must be handed in separately.  The project is done as a team..

  • Your solutions to the project will make up a large portion of your course mark so good teamwork is important.  Each team should meet regularly and individuals should share the workload fairly.  Ensure you understand each others responsibilities and maintain good communications.  For each activity choose a lead person who makes the final decisions for that activity.   Your team's mark will be your mark.  No differentials will be applied.  If a member of a team is having a problem with his/her teammate's contributions then they should discuss the matter openly with the teammate as early as possible before approaching the professor for a resolution.
  • Each student should keep a homepage that is well organized with each of the completed assignments and working  notes, links, etc.  Your TAs will check on these periodically.  You can use your AXE/ACE account, dragon or eagle for setting up this homepage.
  • Each team will be assigned a pair of TAs for coaching and technical support.  Please meet with your TAs at the earliest possible opportunity and ensure that the email lines of communication are open.   Due to the number of persons in the course, students should check with their TAs whenever possible before coming to the professor.
  • All assignments and the project should be submitted to your respective TAs for marking.
